I started training at Define Fitness almost two years ago, it’s a really fun place to work out and that’s really motivating after a hard day’s work. Darren’s my regular personal trainer, and he’s very attentive and knows how to work around injuries and physical limitations. He also knows a lot about diet and nutrition. I’ve also worked out with Janelle and Kyle, and they totally kicked my butt too. It’s a great atmosphere – I’ve made a bunch of new friends here. It’s a much more intimate and comfortable feel than really large gyms like the pro club.

I’ve worked with a lot of different personal trainers throughout the years, but Darren has, by far, been the best trainer that I’ve ever trained with. He’s a great motivator, but also a very knowledgeable instructor. I leave every session with new knowledge about how my body works, how to manipulate my diet to get the results that I want, or how to perform a move so that I have even cleaner form. I’ve been training since January of 2009 and I see such a difference in my strength, muscle tone, and overall fitness. Everyone at Define Fitness Studio is so friendly and supportive—it feels more like a family then a typical gym—it truly is a community of people coming together to get healthy. If you want to get fit, this is the place you want to do it!!!

It is the “Cheers” of the 21st century – just replace the beer with exercise. It is where everybody knows your name and you just like to hangout while drenched in sweat. It has the laidback, friendly, upbeat atmosphere but not in a Richards Simmons kind of way. Don’t expect uptight trainers in matching uniforms…if you want that find another studio. If you are looking for a trainer that is in great shape but is not all about bean sprouts and tofu then you have come to my kind of place. They are sticklers for form and push you so that you see results (10 pounds lost in my first month and 25 lbs lost total so far, more toned muscle than I have had in my life, energy that I thought was lost to my 20′s, and new found confidence to boot). Let me be real, I would have never in my wildest imagination would even consider participating in a 5k race, now I can’t wait! The flexible scheduling and very reasonable cost opens the door for anyone who has said they don’t have time and/or the money to work with a personal trainer (heck, I work full time and go to grad school which means I have no time or money). I actually look forward to heading to the studio. Yes, Darren enjoys torturing us, but I find myself laughing more when I am working out than when I am watching a Ben Stiller movie. But don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself!

Since I started going to Define Fitness, I’ve experienced many things I never have before:

I recently joined the Air National Guard and was concerned about passing my Physical Training test. In particular, I am a very slow runner and wanted to improve my time running 1.5 miles for my PT test. I joined Define Fitness to accomplish this along with getting into better overall shape. Darren tailored running workouts for me and we set a goal of running 1.5 miles in 12 minutes. (Thirteen years ago, the best time I had running 1.5 miles was 11:15.) Working out with Darren twice a week while incorporating his suggestions into my running workouts not only helped me meet this goal, but I ran the 1.5 miles in 10:40. My best time ever! I not only exceed my running time goal, but I also passed my PT test wth a score of Excellent (97%). With Darren’s help, I accomplished all of this at the age of 43. You’re never too young to incorporate fitness and exceed goals.

I don’t always feel like working out, but I’m always glad I did. The best part of working out at Define Fitness is that it helps me want to work out instead of just knowing I should. I love the physical benefits, but the mental benefits are the true motivation. I feel successful when I’ve had a challenging workout; I feel triumphant when I lift more than I thought I could; I feel empowered when I’ve pushed myself beyond my own expectations.
The best and most unique part, however, is the social aspect. The trainers are engaging and I look forward to seeing other clients. We joke around, challenge each other, and cheer each other on. We all have fun!
To me, Define Fitness is more than a place to get in shape. It’s a place where I enjoy friends and enhance my life.
